Standalone stereo drone
Bank a drone algorithm, set the toggles, and let Vhikk X run as a one-module stereo ambient voice.
Walkthrough
  1. Power up Vhikk X with nothing patched to IN L/R — unpatched IN means the generator runs, not the FX stage.
  2. Press the Lower button in BANK mode to pick a drone-flavoured bank (bank LEDs show the selection).
  3. Set Toggle 1 and Toggle 2 to Middle for a centred algorithm, then experiment with other positions.
  4. Press MODE to page encoders to BASIS+TIME; turn BASIS to tune the drone, TIME to set the motion.
  5. Press MODE again to reach SEED+SCAN; tweak SEED for timbral identity, SCAN for spectral motion.
  6. Dial WARP, MORPH, FIELD, and MIX on the panel until the drone sits where you want it.
  7. Patch OUT L → Mixer In L, OUT R → Mixer In R for a proper stereo image.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — wide stereo drone at up to 18 Vpp full-scale.
Listen for A continuous stereo drone that moves on its own even without CV. Small WARP/MORPH tweaks push the timbre between clean and overtone-rich; FIELD opens and closes the filter for breathing motion.

External signal destroyer
Feed a stereo synth voice into IN L/R and use Vhikk X as a 24-bit stereo distortion / granular processor.
Walkthrough
  1. Pick a distortion / granular bank with the Lower button in BANK mode.
  2. Patch Synth OUT L → Vhikk X IN L and Synth OUT R → Vhikk X IN R. With both inputs patched, the generator is bypassed and the FX stage takes your signal.
  3. Bring MIX up (panel knob) until you hear your source blended with the processed signal.
  4. Turn FEED CW gradually — too much feedback will self-oscillate; back it off until the character is right.
  5. Adjust Toggle 1 / Toggle 2 to move through the 9 algorithms in the bank and pick the flavour you want.
  6. Dial FIELD to sculpt the post-FX filter tone.
  7. Patch OUT L/R to your final output.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — stereo processed audio (dry + wet set by MIX).
Listen for Your source mangled in stereo — grit, grain, or harmonic smear depending on the bank. MIX sets how much of the dry source you keep; FEED pushes the FX into self-oscillation for extreme textures.

Gated stereo pluck voice
Use the internal stereo VCA to turn Vhikk X into a plucked / gated voice without any external VCA.
Walkthrough
  1. Pick a percussive or resonator-style bank with the Lower button in BANK mode.
  2. Set the toggles to a sharp, short-sustain algorithm (pluck / mallet / resonator).
  3. Patch your gate source → AD envelope Trigger input.
  4. Set AD attack short and decay to your desired pluck length.
  5. Patch AD Out → Vhikk X VCA CV. This takes over from the internal ~+5V offset, so the module is silent between hits.
  6. Tune the voice: MODE to BASIS+TIME, turn BASIS for pitch.
  7. Patch OUT L → Output L, OUT R → Output R.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — a plucked / gated stereo voice whose envelope is the AD shape.
Listen for Silence between triggers, then a short percussive stereo hit whose body is shaped by the AD. Long decay gives bell/mallet feel; short decay gives tight plucks.

CV-morphing algorithm
Hold the toggles still but let an LFO sweep one parameter through its attenuverter for evolving timbre.
Walkthrough
  1. Pick any bank; set Toggle 1 Up, Toggle 2 Mid (or wherever you like the starting timbre).
  2. Dial in a baseline MORPH / FIELD / TIME setting you like.
  3. Patch LFO Out → Vhikk X MORPH CV.
  4. Set the MORPH attenuverter to roughly noon for a moderate sweep, or past noon for a wider one; CCW inverts.
  5. Adjust LFO rate to the motion you want (slow for pads, faster for movement).
  6. Patch OUT L/R to your mixer.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — drone with continuous parameter motion from the LFO.
Listen for A held algorithm whose tone colour sweeps up and down in time with the LFO. The attenuverter is your depth knob — keep it small for subtle motion, crank it to hear the full parameter range.

Performance bank switching
Jump between 4 banks with the Lower button while a drone plays — instant texture transitions with no re-patching.
Walkthrough
  1. Start a drone as in the Standalone Stereo Drone patch.
  2. Leave the Lower button in its BANK-select state (exit any volume/paging mode via MODE until the Lower button changes bank).
  3. While the drone plays, tap the Lower button to step through banks 1→2→3→4 and back.
  4. Bank LEDs (three red) show the current bank.
  5. Keep the toggle positions the same — each bank exposes a different algorithm at that toggle coordinate, so one wrist movement totally reshapes the sound.
  6. Patch OUT L/R into your mixer.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — continuous audio with abrupt timbral jumps on each bank tap.
Listen for The drone stays at the same pitch roughly but totally changes character on each press — useful for arrangement beats in a live set. Some bank jumps will be dramatic; others subtle.

Randomize-into-new-drone
Tap MODE + Lower together to randomise SEED and SCAN mid-performance (firmware v003+).
Walkthrough
  1. Start a drone running (any bank, any toggles).
  2. Press MODE page until the encoders target SEED+SCAN — turn them to hear how they influence timbre first.
  3. With the drone still running, press MODE and Lower together. The firmware internally randomises SEED and SCAN.
  4. Listen to the new state, then randomise again if you want another shift.
  5. Your WARP / MORPH / FIELD / MIX / FEED knobs stay put — only SEED+SCAN are shuffled.
  6. Patch OUT L/R to your mixer.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — same algorithm, new SEED+SCAN state on each two-button press.
Listen for Each press snaps the drone to a different internal state — often a dramatic timbral jump within the same algorithm family. Great for generative performance.

Stereo reverb for external voice
Send a mono VCO voice through Vhikk X in a reverb/cloud bank for a wide stereo return — no dedicated FX module needed.
Walkthrough
  1. Pick a reverb / cloud bank with the Lower button in BANK mode.
  2. Build a normal mono voice: VCO → Filter → VCA.
  3. Patch VCA Out → Vhikk X IN L only. IN L normals to IN R internally, so a mono input hits both channels of the FX.
  4. Set MIX to full wet if you want only the reverb return; lower MIX to blend the dry voice too.
  5. Adjust TIME (encoder page BASIS+TIME) for reverb length, FEED for tail density.
  6. Patch OUT L → Output L, OUT R → Output R for a wide stereo reverb.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — stereo wet reverb (with dry blended by MIX).
Listen for A mono source returned as a wide stereo reverb with pitched or granular character depending on algorithm. Pull FEED back if the tail runs away; push TIME for lush cathedral sizes.

Cross-modulated dual-parameter
Modulate MORPH and FIELD with related LFOs (via an external ring mod) for correlated but non-identical CV motion.
Walkthrough
  1. Choose a timbre-rich algorithm — set Toggle 1 Down, Toggle 2 Down as a starting point.
  2. Patch a slow LFO → Vhikk X MORPH CV. Set the MORPH attenuverter around noon.
  3. Patch the same slow LFO → Ring Mod In A.
  4. Patch a faster LFO → Ring Mod In B.
  5. Patch Ring Mod Out → Vhikk X FIELD CV. Set the FIELD attenuverter around noon.
  6. Now MORPH follows the slow shape; FIELD follows slow × fast, sharing the slow rate as a common beat.
  7. Patch OUT L/R to your mixer.
Signal out OUT L / OUT R — drone with two correlated-but-distinct modulation streams on MORPH and FIELD.
Listen for Two axes of timbral motion that breathe together on the slow shape but jitter against each other on the fast one. More organic than two unrelated LFOs; tighter than random.

Behaviors

36-algorithm grid toggle switches + bank selection

9 algorithms per bank via two 3-position toggles. 4 banks total = 36 algorithms spanning drone oscillators, wavetable voices, stereo FX, distortion, delay, resonators, and signal destruction. Bank changes are instant; toggle changes are near-instant within the current bank.

Dual-role synth + FX patch IN L/R vs leave unpatched

Each algorithm has a source + FX stage. With no input, Vhikk X runs as a standalone stereo drone voice. With audio at IN L/R, the external signal feeds the FX stage — the module becomes a 24-bit stereo effects processor for any signal. Input gain is −inf to +30 dB.

MODE encoder paging MODE (top) button press

Top button cycles the two encoders between BASIS+TIME and SEED+SCAN targets. One algorithm thus exposes four encoder-adjustable parameters across two pages — the fixed-function knobs (WARP/SPAN/MORPH/FUSE/FIELD/MIX/FEED) cover the rest.

True-stereo signal path select stereo algorithms

Select algorithms run end-to-end in stereo — IN L and IN R processed independently through filters, delays, and FX rather than summing to mono. Creates wide, phase-decorrelated drones without external stereo tools.

Internal stereo VCA VCA CV input

Built-in stereo VCA at the output. Unpatched, VCA CV reads ~+5V so the module always makes sound. Patch an envelope or LFO to VCA CV to gate the entire module — no external stereo VCA needed to make Vhikk X a plucked or gated voice.

USB-C Mass-Storage firmware USB-C cable to computer

Module mounts as a USB Mass Storage drive. Drag-and-drop firmware updates; HELP.TXT reveals the current version. USB and Eurorack power coexist so the module stays live during update.

Parameter randomize (SEED + SCAN) press MODE + Lower button together (firmware v003+)

Pressing both buttons simultaneously internally randomises SEED and SCAN — useful live for sudden timbral shifts without re-tweaking. Other parameter knobs remain at their panel positions.

State saving auto-save ~30 s after last change

Vhikk X writes its parameter state to internal storage about 30 seconds after the last touch (wear-levelling delay). Global vs per-algorithm saving is chosen by holding a button at power-on.
