Behaviors

Snake Patterns (X and Y) select on SNAKE page

16 built-in patterns traverse the 4×4 grid non-linearly. Pattern 1 = standard L-R serpentine, 2 = vertical serpentine, 3 = straight columns, 5-6 = inward spirals, 7-8 = diagonals, 9-16 = scrambled. FUN.CV.SNAKE allows X-CV/Y-CV to select Snake pattern dynamically.

Cartesian channel (C/Orange) both X-CLK and Y-CLK patched

C location = (X position, Y position) on the grid. X-CLK advances horizontally, Y-CLK advances vertically. C has its own CV/Gate/Access/Glide/Quantizer pages but no Snake page — it inherits X/Y motion. Independent third sequence from two clocks.

ACCESS page — step enable touch buttons on ACCESS page

Enabled locations play; disabled locations are skipped per FUN.OP.SLEEP setting. SLEEP.OFF (SEEK): René jumps over disabled steps. SLEEP.ON: CV holds on last accessible location, Gate continues until next accessible. Infinite rests possible on C channel when one axis is SLEEP.

GATE and LATCH GATE page enables per-step gates; LATCH overrides

GATE page: toggle per-location gate on/off. FUN.OP.TRIG: gate width = clock-width or 10ms trigger. LATCH page (press Channel Button again): touch locations to force-play regardless of ACCESS. Non-destructive — held state does not alter Stored STATE.

GLIDE per-location GLIDE page enables glide on specific steps

Any enabled location glides from previous value to its own CV. Glide time based on clock rate for X/Y; constant for C. Combine with portamento-less QUANT for selective pitch bends only on desired steps.

QUANTizer (per-channel) QUANT page · top row enables, bottom 3 rows pick notes

Top row: octave range (1/2/3/4 oct, or all off for max resolution non-pitch use). Lower three rows = chromatic note toggles (disable Db/Eb/Gb/Ab/Bb for major). Each channel has independent quantizer — X/Y/C can live in different scales simultaneously.

FUN.MOD behaviors configure on channel's FUN page row 2

Sets MOD input behavior: RESET (gate high resets to first accessible location near loc 1), CLK (combines MOD pulses with CLK for extra clocking, or masks clock while high), RUNSTP (channel runs on MOD high, stops on low), DIR (reverses direction on MOD high). RUNSTP and DIR mutually exclusive per channel.

FUN.CV behaviors configure on channel's FUN page row 3

ADD: CV adds to current location's value (quantized if QUANT on). LOC: CV addresses location absolutely (4-step resolution on C inherits from X/Y quarter range). SNAKE: CV selects Snake pattern. S&H: samples CV on MOD rising edge. ADD and S&H are mutually exclusive.

STATES and Z-axis Z-MOD gate / Z-CV / touch State Select page

64 States across 4 Banks. Each State contains ACCESS, GATE, GLIDE, SNAKE, FUN, QUANT and all knob values per channel. On Select STATE Y page, any combination of 64 States can be enabled for Z-MOD stepping. Z-CV absolute. With GL.Z.ON, Z inputs active on all pages (incl. Program).

Z.RESET (global reset via Z) GL.Z.RESET on

Z-MOD not only changes State but also resets X, Y, C to their ACCESS-enabled location nearest Loc 1. Allows building chains of sequences with known start points. Turn Z.ON off and Z.RESET on for a dedicated global reset via Z-MOD.

MESH and Multi-Paste M-Paste (RED) state page

Enable States for Mesh: changes made to active State also apply to all Mesh-enabled States simultaneously. Hold X Button to Multi-Paste current State into all M-Paste-enabled States. Non-destructive until STORE. Propagates to Following TEMPI.

Select Bus (LEAD / FOLLOW / FREE) Global Page → GL.BUS

LEAD transmits State/Bank/M-Paste/Mesh/Store messages on INT.CV bus line. FOLLOW receives such messages. FREE ignores bus (default). Use for macro-control of TEMPI, Storage Strip, or another René. Set TEMPI to Follow to have it sync state changes with René automatically.

FUN.OP.TRIG (gate width) button on FUN row 1

Sets gate output to clock-width (OFF) or 10ms triggers (ON). Triggers useful for plucking vactrol gates (QMMG, Optomix without Strike) or combining multiple gate outputs via mixer without long sustain overlap. Clocks via MOD are always triggers regardless of FUN.OP.TRIG.

FUN.OP.SCAN (instant remap) touch SCAN on FUN page

Scans all 16 current knob positions and writes them to the active channel. Use to quickly copy physical knob state into a channel, tune all three channels to the same notes, or create variations by scanning different channels.

STORE process Global Page → GBL.STORE breathing red pad

Writes all States + Global settings to non-volatile memory. Takes 8-10 seconds during which René stops sequencing. Only way to persist changes across power cycles. M-Paste and LATCH settings are NOT stored — they live only in RAM.
