Phosgène

Modulaire Maritime 2HP

2HP digital oscillator pairing an 11-bit wavefolded wavetable engine (2 banks of 30 waves) with a 100Hz-base FM engine. Coarse/Fold/Mod knobs feed separate Wave Out and FM Out. Tracks 1V/Oct over 8 octaves with octave and octave-displace (wavetables only) switches.

Parallel voice split (one module, two voices)
Treat Wave Out and FM Out as two oscillators sharing pitch. Send Wave Out into a filter for a classic folded lead and FM Out into a distortion or another filter for a darker parallel voice, then mix them. One V/Oct drives both, so melodies stay locked.

Dark FM bass from FM Out
Lean on the 100Hz FM base for a tight bass. An envelope drives Mod CV so the FM depth opens on each note, while Wave Out is ignored (or used later as a harmonic layer).

Drone with displaced sub and folded top
Use Octave Displace so Wave Out sits an octave lower than FM Out. A slow LFO into Fold CV moves the wavetable texture while FM Out holds a mid drone. Both paths mix into a filter.

Glitch percussion from Wave Out
Push the octave high and slam Fold CV with a fast envelope. Wave Out becomes a brittle digital percussion voice; FM Out can run alongside as a metallic accent.

Behaviors

Parallel wavetable and FM paths use both outputs

The wavetable/fold engine and the FM engine share Coarse and pitch but run in parallel to their own jacks. One knob set drives two different voices, so Phosgène often replaces two oscillators in a small case.

100Hz FM base FM Out in use

FM is built around a 100Hz carrier base instead of tracking a normal audio-rate sine. The result is a darker, more sober spectrum that sits well for tight FM basses and deep, controlled modulations rather than bright classic FM bells.

Wavefolding as the main timbre control turn Fold / patch Fold CV

Fold is the primary voicing control for Wave Out. Low Fold gives clean wavetable tones; higher Fold pushes into the brand's 'industrial poison' character, and Fold CV lets an envelope or LFO open the voice dynamically.

Octave displace (wavetables only) Octave Displace switch

The displace switch drops only the wavetable path about an octave further down. FM Out stays where it is, so the same V/Oct can drive a sub-like folded layer while FM holds a mid-range voice.

Stored startup state power cycle

The module recalls the last bank, wave and octave settings after reboot. It boots ready-to-play, which matters in a 2HP tile where you cannot see a preset page.

11-bit aliasing at the top end high octave + noisy tables

The 11-bit wavetable engine plus high octave positions deliberately produces digital trash and aliasing. Useful for brittle leads, metallic percussion and noisy texture rather than polite sine-like tones.

Controls

Global Coarse Main frequency control for both engines. Sets wavetable pitch and the FM carrier (sine) frequency.
shared with FM carrier
Wavetable path Fold Wavefolding amount applied to the selected wavetable. Drives the Wave Out from mellow shapes into industrial digital textures.
CV over Fold
FM path Mod Modulation depth for the FM engine. Pushes/pulls the amplitude of the modulator against the 100Hz base to reach the FM Out timbre.
CV over Mod
Global Wave Select (button) Short press steps to the next wavetable in the current bank. Long press switches bank (Bank 1 / Bank 2).
30 waves per bank, 2 banks
Global Octave (button) Short press steps the oscillator octave up (cycling). Long press steps down. Three octave positions around the tracked range.
tracks across 8 octaves V/Oct
Wavetable path Octave Displace (switch) Shifts wavetable playback about one octave further down the scale. FM path keeps its full range.
