Behaviors

Semi-modular normalization no patching

Default signal path: two VCOs and noise → mixer → VCF → VCA → OUT. Sequencer clock is normalized to TRIGGER input (fires all three EGs); VELOCITY 1-8 normalized to VELOCITY input; noise normalized to the mixer. Any patched cable replaces its normalization.

Three velocity-scaled envelopes every step

VCO, VCF and VCA each have their own decay envelope. All three share one velocity input — per-step VELOCITY knobs set amplitude of all three simultaneously, and also subtly affect their decay time. Velocity=0 silences the step entirely.

Bipolar EG amounts VCO/VCF EG AMOUNT knobs

EG AMOUNT knobs are bipolar around noon. CW produces standard rising envelopes (pitch jumps up, filter opens); CCW produces inverted envelopes (pitch dips, filter closes into each note). Negative pitch gives videogame-style bloops; negative VCF gives inverted drums.

SEQ PITCH MOD routing switch position

VCO 1 & 2: sequencer pitch controls both oscillators (sequenced bass lines). VCO 2: only oscillator 2 — useful with HARD SYNC or FM so VCO 1 holds static pitch while VCO 2 gets sequenced modulation. OFF: PITCH CV still appears on the patchbay, usable as a generic 8-step CV sequencer.

Patchbay as CV sequencer SEQ PITCH MOD OFF · patch PITCH / VELOCITY / TRIGGER outputs

With SEQ PITCH MOD OFF, DFAM doubles as a step-CV sequencer: PITCH out, VELOCITY out and TRIGGER out can modulate another module (e.g., VCA CV, decay time, external filter cutoff). Gives two independent bipolar/unipolar CV rows per step plus a clock.

Clock VCO is the tempo TEMPO knob or TEMPO CV jack

The sequencer clock is itself a voltage-controlled oscillator (1V/oct on TEMPO input). This enables audio-rate clocking — the sequencer becomes an 8-step waveform generator. PITCH out then becomes an oscillator with per-sample amplitudes set by the 8 pitch knobs.

External clock override patch into ADV / CLOCK

TEMPO knob is ignored whenever ADV/CLOCK receives a rising edge. Use Mother-32 ASSIGN (Clock) or another DFAM's TRIGGER out to slave DFAM. Slowly-changing voltages without sharp edges may not trigger — accents from Mother-32 need fast rise to register.

Hard-sync voice character HARD SYNC ON

VCO 2 phase locks to VCO 1. VCO 2 FREQUENCY becomes a timbre control rather than a pitch control — useful for sweeping metallic harmonics while bass pitch stays fixed. VCO 2 goes silent if set below VCO 1 frequency, especially on square wave.

Filter self-oscillation RESONANCE >3 o'clock

In LP mode the VCF self-oscillates into a sine tone, usable as a third sound source (see 'Filter as Oscillator' preset). In HP mode the resonance scales differently — self-oscillation begins around CUTOFF ~1kHz with RESONANCE at max.

Dual-function NOISE/VCF MOD VCF MOD jack

NOISE/VCF MOD knob controls how much noise modulates cutoff (dirt/lo-fi). Patching VCF MOD replaces noise as the modulation source, and the knob now attenuates that external CV — so the knob must be CW for full CV depth.

Sync multiple DFAMs TRIGGER → ADV/CLOCK of secondary

Primary DFAM TRIGGER out → secondary DFAM ADV/CLOCK input. Start the secondary first (so it is ready), then start the primary. Chain more DFAMs the same way. Drives polyrhythmic patterns when primary tempo is varied independently.

Eurorack installation 60HP eurorack case

Front panel unscrews from the wooden enclosure. Internal 10-pin header accepts standard Eurorack power ribbon. Uses +12V only (230mA max), no −12V. No power switch — unit is on when powered.
