Behaviors
Internal signal flow plays a complete voice with no cables: VCO → MIX → VCF → VCA → AUDIO OUT, with EG on VCF and VCA, and the sequencer driving KB CV / GATE internally. Patching any input overrides its normalization.
ASSIGN jack re-routes to one of 16 sources: Accent, Clock, Clock/2, Clock/4, Step Ramp/Saw/Triangle/Random, Step 1 trigger, MIDI Velocity, Channel Pressure, Pitch Bend, CC 1/2/4/7. Clock is the default and is the recommended signal for syncing a DFAM.
TEMPO jack has four modes: Tempo CV, Single-Clock-Advance (default — one pulse per step), Analog Clock at programmable PPQN, and Step-Address CV (dividing the CV range into slices that select individual steps directly). Step-Address turns the jack into a wavetable-style step scanner.
Each sequencer step stores note, Gate Length (1/8–8/8, max = tie to next step), Glide on/off, Ratchet count (1–4 subdivisions), Accent and Rest independently. SUSTAIN must be ON for gate-length variation to be audible.
Unlike most analog sequencers, swing interval is set independently of step rate (8 dotted / 8 triplet / 8 straight divisions). Allows eighth-note steps to be swung on a triplet grid, producing polyrhythmic feels. Swing amount and interval are stored per pattern.
SHIFT + ACCENT = Live Accent on every step · SHIFT + REST = Live Mute · SHIFT + GLIDE = Live Ratchet (1–4) · arrow buttons + keyboard = Live Transpose by octave + note. None of these overrides are stored — they vanish when buttons release.
Internal accent hard-wired to boost both VCF cutoff and VCA level at fixed amount. Setup page 8 option 4 disables internal accent when ASSIGN is set to Accent — use this to re-route accent to external destinations via the ASSIGN jack.
With MIX and RESONANCE at max in LP mode, the ladder filter becomes a clean sine oscillator. Patching KB into VCF CUTOFF tracks it 1V/oct. Plugging an unconnected cable into EXT. AUDIO breaks noise normalization, giving the pure sine. Adds a second voice to the module.
HP mode has no resonance because RESONANCE fails above zero. Patching VCF output back to EXT. AUDIO repurposes MIX as a feedback control for HP resonance, up to self-oscillation. Keep panel RESONANCE fully CCW.
KB CV output follows MIDI Note On. MIDI Note 0 = −5V, 120 = +5V. Pitch bend (±1 octave default, up to ±12 semitones via RPN) adds to KB. Velocity ≥96 sets Accent on recorded steps. CC5 = portamento time, CC65 = portamento on/off, CC64 = sustain.
Internal clock is overridden by MIDI clock, which is overridden by an analog clock at the TEMPO input. Setup page 8 options 1–2 disable Follow MIDI Clock / Follow MIDI Start/Stop when preferred.
DC-coupled and fully independent from the synth voice. With nothing patched, VC MIX knob outputs 0 to +5V as a manual voltage source. Patching one input makes it an attenuator; patching both turns the VC MIX CTRL jack into a crossfader. Works for audio as well as CV.
